When someone falls “in love” it’s a process that’s based on various stages. Psychologists and scientists attribute the ability of falling in love to our “limbic systems” and “limbic resonance”. The limbic system enables two people to have what is referred to as mutual chemistry when they are “in love”. Limbic resonance enables one person to tune into another’s state of emotions and feel what they are feeling.

The Chemistry of Being in Love

When two people are in love; their Limbic system resonates together. This is where the idea of two hearts beating as one come into fruition. What connects two people on the biochemical and psychological level in love is first chemistry and then, synchronicity. The limbic system is what enables us to feel connected to another person. And conversely, when there is not synchronicity,  it can make two people feel disconnected.

When we first fall in love there is a euphoria that takes over us. Once the relationship begins to really develop the feelings of true love start to emerge between two people. The feelings associated with “true love” are:

1. An exclusive, sustained, and prolonged intimacy shared between two people.

3. The two have a mutual limbic resonance. This synchronicity enables them to also have a mutual limbic regulation – a common chemical interaction. Both share the same feelings towards one another. It is an unexplainable chemistry that results in an obvious unity between tow people.

When two people are in a mutually felt loving relationship the two experience a certain level of emotional attachment unlike any other relationship. Interpersonal love is the type of love that occurs between human beings. It is a more intense feeling than just two people “liking” each other. It implies a relationship between two people as well. Most of the time when we speak of love its usually on a romantic level between a man and a woman. Love means different things to different people. How people love is based on where they are emotionally in their life.

When you have love for someone you want the best for them. Two people who have love for one another want to naturally be there for each other. They help each other unconditionally when there is a problem.

The ancient Greeks classified the feeling of love into 4 specific categories. They are:

Agape Love

Agape Love – Agape love is what we call unconditional or selfless love. This is love by choice. You choose to be with the person because of the love you have for them. You also stay even when the person does something you don’t like or consider wrong. An example of agape love is loving someone despite their faults.

Philia Love

Philia Love – Is non passionate and virtuous love. This is not romantic love by any means. This type of love is guided by one’s sense of morality. This is love of mankind for example.

Storge Love

Storge – This is the love one has for their family and the showing of physical affection. This is the part of love embracing the idea that humans need touch. It also hits on the idea of exceptional friendships.

Eros Love

Eros – this is the physical and sexual side of love. It is the root word of Erotic and where we get the word erotica which tends to be a selfish type of love.

Love is so much more complex than the four categories above. These are just general classifications for the types of love people feel based on the different relationships they have in their lives.

What is True Love?

How many people are lucky enough to experience true love? How many people even believe that true love is real? True love does exist. The question is – are you patient enough to wait? These three obvious signs are what a person experiencing true love goes through when true love hits them. When you have true love in your life you feel as though you can take on those challenges with more self confidence and courage because you have someone that backs you up unconditionally.

When you have true love there is unconditional love between the two of you. There is mutual sharing and caring which nurtures the feelings of the love you already have. True love grows. True love is expansive. True love is a powerful force.
